ABOUT ME

"Sow, Grow, Inspire: Christa Barfield's Trailblazing Journey in Agriculture."

Christa Barfield is a health-care professional turned farmer and life-long Philadelphia resident. It was 10 years into her career in health-care administration when she realized her work-life balance was unhealthy; she resigned from her job and embarked on a solo trip to Martinique and returned home inspired to connect with the land, decolonize the outdoors, and assess social issues that heavily impact black and brown communities and ALL people access to organic food.

  • "In farming, as in business, timing is everything. Knowing when to plant, when to harvest, and when to pivot is crucial for success.”

  • "Barfield is trying to answer what is the intersection of affordable food and a living wage for a farmer, because historically those two things don’t meet up. The sustainability and profitability FarmerJawn aims for can be hard to find in the agriculture industry."

Lessons of Life and Business that Agriculture has taught me

01

03

"Agriculture has taught me that growth often occurs in silence and obscurity, just like seeds sprouting beneath the soil. It’s a reminder to keep pushing forward, even when progress isn’t immediately visible.”

02

“The land doesn’t discriminate – it gives back what you put into it. This has taught me the value of hard work and dedication in all aspects of life and business.”

“Every seed planted is a hope for the future, and every harvest is a testament to the power of dedication and belief.”
